Annual Report 2021
For Equitable Origin, 2021 has been a year of tremendous growth and opportunity. Although the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change continue to affect Indigenous Peoples, EO and its partners are adapting to continue their help to promote and strengthen the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Together with the Coordinator of the Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA), EO has worked on the Center for the Strengthening the Rights of Indigenous Rights (CEFO Indígena). Through the CEFO Indígena we have provided training to Indigenous leaders from Ecuador, Peru and Mexico.
2021 was an outstanding year for the EO100™️ Standard and Responsible Energy Development. We continue to reach milestones in applying the Standard to energy projects in North America, certifying four new sites in the United States and three new sites in Canada.
Internet access and connectivity are a pressing challenge for Indigenous Peoples and EO has identified this as an opportunity to help connect the unconnected. EO and the Regional Council of Xpujil (CRIPX) have been using satellite technology since 2021 to improve internet access in Indigenous communities.
The connectivity project will continue during 2022, which began with a productive field trip to learn about the state of connectivity in three Shuar communities in Ecuador belonging to the Provincial Federation of the Shuar Nationality of Zamora Chinchipe (FEPNASH-ZCH)and to evaluate the possibility of implementing a pilot connectivity project in the area. . Para Equitable Origin, el 2021 ha sido un año de gran crecimiento y oportunidad. Aunque los efectos de la pandemia de COVID-19 y el cambio climático siguen afectando a los Pueblos Indígenas, EO y sus socios se adaptan para continuar con su ayuda para promover y fortalecer los derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas.
Junto a la Coordinadora de las Organizaciones Indígenas de la Cuenca Amazónica (COICA), EO trabaja en el Centro de Fortalecimiento de los Derechos Indígenas (CEFO Indígena). A través del CEFO Indígena hemos brindado capacitación a líderes indígenas de Ecuador, Perú y México.
2021 fue un año destacado para el Estándar EO100™️ y el Desarrollo Energético Responsable. Seguimos alcanzando hitos en la aplicación del estándar a proyectos de energía en América del Norte, certificamos cuatro sitios en los Estados Unidos y tres sitios en Canadá.
La conectividad y el acceso a Internet son un desafío apremiante para los Pueblos Indígenas y EO ha identificado esto como una oportunidad para ayudar a conectar a los desconectados. EO y el Consejo Regional de Xpujil (CRIPX) utilizan tecnología satelital desde el 2021 para mejorar el acceso a internet en las comunidades indígenas.
El proyecto de conectividad continuará durante el 2022, el cual arrancó con un productivo viaje de campo para conocer la situación de conectividad en tres comunidades Shuar de Ecuador pertenecientes a la Federación Provincial de la Nacionalidad de Shuar de Zamora Chinchipe (FEPNASH-ZCH), en el viaje se evaluó la posibilidad de implementar un proyecto piloto de conectividad en la zona.
