Born in the Netherlands, Zazoe’s passion for sustainability has been shaped by her country’s innovative approaches to environmental challenges. Her studies in Sustainable Development at Columbia University further fueled her commitment to finding solutions that balance people and the planet.
At Columbia’s Climate School, Zazoe contributed to a GIS-based research project that used satellite imagery and remote sensing to map flooding events in Bangladesh’s Sylhet region. The team tested the accuracy of water mapping algorithms to determine their potential use for flood index insurance, reinforcing her belief in science and technology as tools for climate adaptation. She has also conducted water testing at a contaminated Superfund site in New York, gaining firsthand experience addressing urban environmental issues.
Zazoe worked alongside Indigenous communities in Costa Rica, supporting wildlife conservation and reforestation initiatives. Through this, she learned the importance of honoring traditional knowledge and the critical role local communities play in environmental stewardship.
With over 15 years in the fashion industry, Zazoe has gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of promoting sustainability. She is passionate about integrating ethical practices into every field she engages with, from fashion to environmental conservation.
Zazoe is driven by a belief that sustainability, community, and empathy are at the heart of creating a more equitable and resilient future.
