Having spent time as an engineer, manager, member and chairman of the Boards of Directors of several international companies, Rene enjoys a global perspective on a rapidly changing energy industry and is well aware of the contemporary need for a heightened focus on increased environmental and social responsibility. As an experienced consultant and energy investment strategist, Rene identified the need, and is a strong advocate, for a voluntary certification system to secure the sustainable future of the oil and gas industry. Rene supports Equitable Origin’s Board of Directors and senior management in developing and implementing strategy across the globe.

Rene is former Secretary General of OPEC in Vienna and Minister of Energy and Mines in Ecuador. He is a renowned specialist in the oil and gas industry in Latin America, the Middle-East and Asia. Currently, Rene is a Board member of the Institute of the Americas and a member of the editorial council of Ecuador's Weekly Report.

Rene graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute of Ecuador, a Masters in Engineering from the University of Miami and a Diploma from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University.
