“Tarimitat Pujistin” selected for global pilot of BASE initiative

Thanks to the collaborative work of Equitable Origin, the Shuar Provincial Federation of Zamora Chinchipe and Nature and Culture International, the project "Tarimitat Pujistin", meaning territory for life in Shuar, was selected as one of the 8 global pilots of the BASE initiative.

BASE is a gamechanger in terms of climate financing for frontline communities in the battle against climate change. Its main objective is to allow climate funding to reach in a much more effective way to communities that have a proven and unacknowledged record of providing important environmental services to the world.

At the same time, BASE is closely aligned with the EO-CEFO mission of connecting Indigenous Knowledge with Scientific Knowledge and making them work together towards a common purpose: the indigenous-led conservation of the Amazon Basin ecosystem. “Tarimitat Pujistin” will strengthen the Shuar people's territorial rights and indigenous governance of critical areas of Zamora Chinchipe threatened by illegal mining and climate change. The project will also contribute to the Shuar culture preservation, autonomy, and traditional ways of living in harmony with nature. Stay tuned for more updates on the implementation process!
